Henderson Fine Arts Gallery

October 14, 2011- November 11, 2011

Reception: October 14 – 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

The San Juan College Fine Arts Committee Artist Invitational will feature the work of Oreland Joe in the exhibit titled Visions, October 14 – November 11, in the Henderson Fine Arts Center Gallery. An opening reception is slated for Friday, October 14, from 6 to 8 p.m.

During the reception, Joe’s documentary, Oreland C. Joe Master Sculptor, will be shown every 45 minutes, in room 9006 of the Henderson Fine Arts Center. While Joe is unable to attend the opening, he will be available for a question and answer session in the Fine Arts Center Gallery, Wednesday, October 19, from 5 to 7 p.m.

This exhibit is about no boundaries or limitations,” Joe explains. “Visions expresses one’s belief or dream of a certain subject matter through the use of color, texture, line and technique. ”

The exhibit will feature a variety of his bronze and stone sculptures. An interesting element in Joe’s work is that his silver castings come from an old technique called “tufa casting,” otherwise known as condensed volcanic ash. Along with an array of sculptures, Joe’s exhibit showcases his creative exploration of paintings and drawings. Art enthusiasts also will appreciate his interpretations of traditions, culture, people, song and dance.

The Art Gallery is open Monday through Thursday, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Friday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and is closed on weekends. For further information about this exhibit or other Gallery events, contact Cindy McNealy at 566-3464 or mcnealyc@sanjuancollege.edu .
