Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)

San Juan College will host a Spring FAFSA Fiesta on Wednesday April 4, 2018 in the Suns Room on the Farmington campus across from Mary’s Kitchen.  At the Spring FAFSA Fiesta new students, current students and anyone considering college will be able to fill out their FAFSA with the assistance of the San Juan College Financial Aid Department staff.

Degree-seeking students who fill out a FAFSA at the event will be eligible to win a scholarship to San Juan College from the San Juan College Foundation. Two winners will be chosen for either a $250 scholarship for part-time students or a $500 scholarship for full-time students. The scholarship must be used in the Spring 2018 semester by a degree-seeking new student or a degree-seeking continuing student with a minimum 2.0 GPA. The scholarship is non-transferable.

Beginning this year, the FAFSA can be completed starting October 1. When filling out a FAFSA on or after October 1, any funds a student qualifies for will be available for the 18-19 academic year–Fall 2018, Spring 2019 and Summer 2019 using their 2016 tax information.  Anyone wishing to complete their FAFSA for the 17-18 academic year–Fall 2017, Spring 2018, and Summer 2018 will need their 2015 tax information.

The FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) determines a student’s eligibility for federal financial aid, which can be awarded in grants, scholarships, work-study and education loans. Grants, scholarship and work-study awards are considered investment funds in a student’s education and do not have to be paid back by students or their families.

At the Spring FAFSA Fiesta, computers will be available for student to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid.  Staff will be on hand to answer any questions and assist with the application.  Once the FAFSA is completed, students will get immediate results and the information will become available to the schools that were listed.

The Spring FAFSA Fiesta will also have numerous SJC departments and student support offices present for those who wish to learn more about their services. Departments in attendance will be Enrollment Services, Student Achievement Center, Herencia Latina Center, Student Government and more. Free popcorn, free drinks, giveaways and door prizes will be offered as well.
