What is the Safe Zone Program?

The SJC Safe Zone Program provides advocacy and support for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, and Questioning (GLBTQ) students, faculty, and staff, while working to educate the wider SJC community about GLBTQ issues.  We welcome any and all individuals into an environment where they know they can feel safe and not face discrimination due to their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression.

We are guided by a vision of a campus community where every member has an equal opportunity to grow and learn in a safe and open environment. Through Safe Zone, we hope to promote a general atmosphere of respect on campus, an atmosphere that welcomes diversity in many forms.

Safe Zone Allies

All SJC Allies have attended a Safe Zone workshop and training to be better equipped to assist GLBTQ students when help is needed. Allies are there to support, advocate and provide resources to students in need. They have signed a pledge to be positive, accepting and supportive of GLBTQ individuals by providing a Safe Zone for all students. All allies will display the Safe Zone logo in a noticeable spot in their workplace.
