The San Juan College Board of Trustees approved a modest tuition increase, during the April 1 meeting, which will be implemented in the fall semester of 2024.

Effective Fall 2024

Resident tuition will adjust to $61 per credit hour, a minimal increase of only $5 per credit hour. Non-resident tuition will move to $195 per credit hour, an increase of $17 per credit hour. General fees will not increase.

The tuition adjustment is part of a tuition revenue management strategy the Board implemented into policy in 2018. The policy states that tuition will be increased every other year based on the average of the percent increase (if any) in the Consumer Price Index (CPI) and the percent decrease (if any) in the sum of state funding, property tax revenue, and oil and gas production revenue.

“Our focus is and remains on providing our students with affordable access to the training and education they need to succeed,” said Edward DesPlas, San Juan College executive vice president. “San Juan College remains one of the most affordable colleges in the nation, with our resident tuition and fees being one-half the national average for public two-year colleges.”

Resources for Students

There are a range of resources for student financial assistance through federal and state funding, the New Mexico Opportunity scholarship, state lottery scholarships, as well as scholarships available through the San Juan College Foundation.

San Juan College’s Financial Aid office is available to advise and assist students in securing the funding to complete their educational goals. The Financial Aid Lab, located within the Financial Aid office on the first floor of the Educational Services Center (Clock Tower), is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome. Students will receive immediate personalized assistance at the lab from a Financial Aid staff member. Students need to bring their 2022 federal tax information for the 2024-2025 FAFSA. For dependent status students, parent information will also be needed. The Financial Aid office can be reached at 505-566-3323 or financialaid@sanjuancollege.edu
