The Native American Center will invite our college community to wear red on Friday, May 3 to address the Missing or Murdered Indigenous Persons crisis.
This is a campaign to recognize that Native women, men, and children suffer/experience some of the highest rates of violence, which includes sexual assault and cases of rape. Because of underreporting and jurisdictional issues, many of these crimes go undetected; but if detected, many cases go unsolved or unprosecuted.
May is the month Native communities across the country recognize these victims and problems with our judicial system. The Native American Center wants to participate in this awareness campaign for social justice.
On May 5, people are asked to wear the color red to show unity for this cause.
We encourage staff, students, and faculty to wear red on Friday, May 3, 2024.
