The annual Charity Bowl Sale returned to campus last November with handmade, one-of-a-kind ceramic creations made by San Juan College students. San Juan College has hosted the Charity Bowl Sale for more than 20 years, with proceeds benefiting a local charity. This last year’s charity recipient was Tres Rios Habitat for Humanity®. Tres Rios Habitat for Humanity® is a nonprofit housing organization that works to provide adequate housing by building simple, decent homes in partnership with people in need. They also have a local Habitat store where community members can volunteer or donate items to be sold at the store.

Handmade bowls come with fill-up of delicious soup!

Ceramic bowls made by San Juan College students and staff were available for purchase for $10. Each purchased bowl came with a free fill-up of soup from Mary’s Kitchen at San Juan College. At this last year’s sale, San Juan College raised more than $10,000 for Tres Rios Habitat for Humanity®.

Donation helps local family build a new home

This timely donation contributed to the construction of a new home, which began in February 2022. The recipients of a new house built by Habitat for Humanity® have an agreement to put in 200 hours to help build their home. Carlla Lobato and her three children, ages 14, 7 and 4 years old have been actively helping. They have been living in a small apartment and are excited to have a place to call their own.
