San Juan College earned the Platinum award for its workplace policies by Family Friendly New Mexico, a statewide initiative developed to recognize companies that have adopted policies that give New Mexico businesses an advantage in recruiting and retaining the best employees.

San Juan College’s array of paid leave, health support, flexible work schedules, and economic support for families qualify it as a leader among family-friendly workplaces. The College’s expressed commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion was a factor in eligibility for the Platinum award.

“These policies have a direct impact on San Juan College’s ability to attract and retain a talented workforce,” said Kerri Langoni Carpenter, vice president of Human Resources and Legal Activities. “San Juan College works hard to foster a workplace that allows employees the ability to balance their family and work obligations and is honored to be recognized as a family-friendly employer.

San Juan College is a Top Military Friendly School

”In addition to being recognized as a Family Friendly New Mexico business, San Juan College earned the distinction as one of the nation’s Top Military Friendly® Schools for 2022-23, for the sixth consecutive year. Furthermore, San Juan College achieved Gold Status, the highest designation and was named a Military Friendly® Spouse School. Additionally, San Juan College was named number eight on the National Top Ten list of Military Friendly® Schools in the Large Community Colleges category. The special awards are published by Military Friendly® Schools and Employers at militaryfriendly.com.

Military Friendly® Awards showcase the most powerful and effective programs of more than 200 companies and 1,200 post-secondary schools that were designated as “Military Friendly.” Of those designated, 154 employers and 541 schools have been recognized for excellence in different categories.

“San Juan College is committed to ensuring veterans find their successes,” says Dr. Boomer Appleman, vice president for Student Services. “At the Center, we can help veterans, their spouses and dependents with everything from applying and registering for classes to assisting with financial aid and GI Bill® processes.”

San Juan College features a Veteran Center on its main campus. The Center provides veterans with transitional assistance to promote goal achievement through a quality educational experience necessary to become competitive, adaptable, and successful in an ever-changing civilian environment.

The staff at the Veteran Center, all of whom are veterans, offer a guided entry experience to ensure every veteran utilizes their benefits to their fullest potential. The Veteran Center also provides the entire SJC campus with outreach education, to help civilian students better understand and appreciate veterans.
