Dr. Whatley is a New Mexico native who has worked in higher education for nearly 21 years.

SJRMC Community Award

He spent the last 14 years at Austin Community College serving as Dean of Design, Manufacturing, Construction and Applied Technologies. Prior to that he was the interim dean and department chair for the welding technology department.

In 2019, Dr. Whatley received the Austin Community College Administrator of the Year award. In 2020, he received the Austin Community Chancellor’s Leadership Excellence Award. Dr. Whatley earned his Associate of Applied Science degree in Welding from Eastern New Mexico University in Roswell. He attained a Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Education from Eastern New Mexico University and a Master’s degree in Education from Eastern New Mexico University. He completed his Doctorate in Leadership and Learning in Organizations at Vanderbilt University in July.

Dr. Whatley and his wife Jenna are excited about the wide range of outdoor activities available in the region and are eager to contribute to the community in meaningful ways.
