Reaching a century of life is extraordinary, but reaching a century filled with generosity, service and unwavering support for education is truly remarkable.

Ruth Allison and her family

Celebrating 100 Years of Life, Leadership and Lasting Influence

This year, San Juan College (SJC) and the San Juan College Foundation proudly celebrated the 100th birthday of Ruth Allison, a woman whose compassion and commitment have shaped generations of students.

This milestone honors more than longevity; it celebrates a legacy of giving that continues to strengthen the college, enrich programs and expand opportunities for learners across the region.

A Donor Whose Impact Spans Generations

“How often do you find a donor whose generosity spans decades, touches every corner of a college, and is still growing at 100 years old? Ruth is such a gift to our college and our community. We realize that we are profoundly fortunate,” shared Foundation Executive Director Gayle Dean.

Ruth and her late husband, Lou Allison, have been unwavering supporters of San Juan College for decades. Their contributions have enhanced faculty awards, expanded scholarships, funded program development and lifted countless students toward their dreams. Their giving has always been thoughtful, consistent and guided by a deep belief in the power of education to change lives.

A Family Legacy Rooted in Education

The Allison legacy extends beyond Ruth and Lou themselves. Many members of the Allison family have attended San Juan College or San Juan College High School, emphasizing a multigenerational commitment to learning. Ruth represents a family tradition built on trust, compassion and belief in students’ potential.

The impact of the Allison family is woven throughout SJC’s history, visible in the programs they have supported, the students they have encouraged and the opportunities they have helped create.

A Life Defined by Energy, Enthusiasm and Generosity

Even at 100, Ruth remains active and engaged. In December, she made a special gift to support the SJC pickleball tournament, a fitting reflection of her joyful spirit. Ruth played tennis until the age of 93 before picking up pickleball, embodying the idea that enthusiasm and community involvement never have to fade with age.

Her boundless curiosity and dedication continue to inspire those who know her and those who benefit from her generosity.

Ruth Allison’s life serves as a powerful reminder of how one person can influence thousands. Her legacy at San Juan College is not only financial; it is personal, profound and enduring.

Her commitment inspires others to give, volunteer, support students and strengthen the mission of San Juan College. As we celebrate her 100 remarkable years, we honor not only her past contributions but also the future generations who will thrive because of her generosity.
