Since joining San Juan College (SJC) in August 2025, Kimberly Nath, Dean of the School of Arts and Humanities, has wasted no time making an impact.
Whether she is walking the halls, sitting in on classes or collaborating with faculty, Nath brings a visible sense of momentum and purpose to everything she does.
“If you stop by the School of Arts and Humanities, chances are you’ll catch me already in motion,” Nath said. “My days tend to start fast and stay dynamic, often filled with meetings, curriculum development, faculty management and popping into classes. No two days look the same.”
A Career Path Rooted in Education and Leadership
Before coming to SJC, Nath served as Chair of the History Department and Associate Professor of History at the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater. While she loved teaching, her professional interests were beginning to evolve.
“My interests were starting to shift, and I was looking for a more administrative role,” Nath explained. “I wanted to be in a position where I could help shape programs, support faculty and have a broader impact on students.”
Strategic Priorities for the School of Arts and Humanities
As dean, Nath is already focused on initiatives that align with student needs, workforce trends and the evolving landscape of higher education. Among her top priorities for the year are:
- Launching a fully online liberal arts associate degree
- Developing a digital humanities certificate
- Strengthening community and collaboration within the school
These efforts are designed to increase access, flexibility and relevance for students pursuing arts and humanities degrees.
“I want office doors open,” Nath said. “It allows for a more inviting space for both colleagues and students. Community doesn’t happen by accident; it has to be intentional.”
Her emphasis on openness and connection reflects a leadership style rooted in collaboration and inclusion, values she believes are essential to a thriving academic environment.
Building Community Inside and Outside the Classroom
Nath’s appreciation for community extends beyond her professional role. Outside of work, she enjoys reading, outdoor adventures and spending time with her dog, Blanche Devereaux, a 13-pound chihuahua mix named after the iconic Golden Girls character.
Blanche has become something of a celebrity herself, boasting her own Instagram following where daily posts bring smiles to friends, family and fans alike.

When asked what she loves most about the San Juan College community, Nath doesn’t hesitate.
“Friendly faces, a helpful campus culture and can’t-miss events like the Balloon Glow make it feel like home,” she said.
Leadership Recognized Across Campus
College leadership has already taken note of Nath’s enthusiasm and early contributions. Executive Vice President Edward DesPlas praised her collaborative approach and forward-thinking mindset.
“Her focus on both innovation and connection has already begun to shape the culture of the School of Arts and Humanities,” DesPlas said. “She will continue to make a meaningful difference at San Juan College.”
