Our Phlebotomy Technician Certificate prepares you for an entry-level position in a lab or hospital setting in just 16 weeks. What You'll Learn in the Phlebotomy Technician Certificate Program

Develop the skills you need to work as a phlebotomy technician with our certificate program. You'll take two eight-week courses that will teach you the theory and practice of drawing blood. In your classroom course, you'll study:

  • Body system anatomy and function
  • Blood draw site selection
  • Equipment and supplies
  • Anticoagulants
  • Specimen processing
  • Safety and precautions
  • Ethics and professionalism

You will learn how to perform:

  • Venipunctures: puncturing a vein to draw blood to collect samples or for other medical procedures
  • Capillary sticks: a form of blood draw used in infants or adults in which venipuncture is difficult

You'll also accumulate 100 hours of supervised applied experience in your clinical practicum course to build up your skills. By completing all certificate requirements, you will qualify to take the ASCP or AMT national certification examination.
