Welcome to spring! It is one of my favorite times of the year, as we enjoy the warmer weather and embrace all that the season symbolizes – renewal, growth and opportunities for new beginnings.

San Juan College President, Toni Hopper Pendergrass

Throughout this edition of Communicator, you will find stories featuring accomplishments and how we are making a positive difference for our students and our community.

Serving our students and our community has always been a priority at San Juan College. In this issue’s cover story, we celebrate 20 years of hosting Give Kids a Smile®. The San Juan College Dental Hygiene program, along with the Northwest Dental Association, have treated more than 1,000 children in our community and completed more than  $1 million in donated dentistry.

I invite you to read about how Four Corners Tax Help provides free tax preparation again this year for those with low to moderate income.  Students in our accounting classes gain real-world experience, all while providing a much-needed service in our community.

Also, in this issue, San Juan College Foundation hosted their first-ever Pickleball Tournament in late January. The tournament was a success as more than 60 teams participated. We are grateful for Pumps & Service, Morgan Stanley and United Healthcare, who sponsored the event.  Our Foundation does such a tremendous job at providing support for the College, especially through the scholarships for SJC students. This is just another example of how a coordinated effort serves our students and the community. This spring, I hope you take time to visit one of our campuses — to snap a picture of the beautiful blossoms or to pursue one of the many opportunities and services we offer. As always, I hope that San Juan College can be a part of your growth or new beginning.
