Through the State of New Mexico's Dual Credit program, eligible students can take college courses tuition-free while still attending high school. Participants earn credits that count toward both high school graduation requirements and future college degrees, creating significant educational and financial advantages.

More Than 1,600 Students Participate in Dual Credit Program

SJC operates the second-largest Dual Credit program in New Mexico. During the Spring 2026 semester alone, more than 1,600 high school students enrolled in college-level courses through the program.

The impact of these opportunities was evident during graduation season.

A total of 368 graduating seniors earned 12 or more college credit hours while still in high school. These students received purple graduation cords to recognize their academic accomplishments and commitment to higher education.

Even more impressive, 90 graduating seniors completed the requirements for an associate degree before graduating from high school. These students received an SJC medallion to wear during both their high school commencement ceremonies and graduation.

Scholarships Help Students Continue Their Education

The San Juan College Foundation further supports student success through scholarship funding that helps graduates continue their educational journeys.

This spring, the SJC Foundation awarded scholarships to 96 graduating seniors from San Juan County. The scholarships totaled $115,000 and will help students pursue their academic goals at San Juan College.

These investments reduce financial barriers and provide students with greater opportunities to complete degrees, earn workforce credentials and build successful careers.

Building the Future Workforce

Dual Credit programs play an important role in preparing students for college and the workforce by allowing them to experience college-level expectations in a supportive environment.

Students who participate often enter college with greater confidence, reduced educational costs and a clearer path toward degree completion. The program also helps families save money while accelerating progress toward career goals.

As participation continues to grow, SJC remains committed to expanding educational access and supporting student achievement throughout the region.
