With the beginning of the new semester, we are excited to welcome our new and returning students to campus. We are glad you chose San Juan College to pursue your educational goals. We are dedicated to your success and are committed to providing you with a high-quality education that will help you excel in your future.

Paramedic Students

Speaking of success, you will want to read the cover story about our Emergency Medical Services program. This year’s paramedic students will graduate on September 15, 2023. In a remarkable display of excellence, SJC paramedic students have achieved a 100 percent first-time pass rate on the National Registry Paramedic examination every year since 2012. This exemplifies SJC’s dedication to not only our students, but also our community in helping train the next generation of first responders and healthcare workers.

Scholarship Recepient

I am thrilled to introduce the 2023 San Juan College Trustees Scholar, Torince Tanner. Tori is the second recipient of this prestigious full-ride scholarship offered through the San Juan College Foundation. The scholarship includes housing, a meal plan, tuition, fees as well as a book stipend. Learn more about Tori and read the entire story on page 3.

SJC Student in SkillsUSA

In addition, I am proud of San Juan College student Thomas Pipkin who competed at the National Skills USA competition in Atlanta, Georgia, in June. Thomas achieved a fifth place finish overall for the Automotive Service Technology contest. He also received a Skill Point Certificate, indicating an industry-standard high-level of competency throughout the competition.

New Housing Wins Award

The SJC Housing Project, Nizhóní Sunrise Suites, won the Associated General Contractors of New Mexico (AGC NM) award for LEED Certifiable Project of the Year. To achieve LEED certification, a project earns points by adhering to prerequisites and credits that address carbon, energy, waste, transportation, materials, health and indoor environment quality. Read more about this award on page 5.

Henderson Box Office Gets New System

I am happy to let the community know we now have a new ticketing system to reserve your favorite seat for shows in the Henderson Fine Arts Center and in the Connie Gotsch Theatre. The new system makes buying tickets easy, both online and in-person. I invite you to read more on page 4.

As always, your success matters at San Juan College. We are here to help you on your path to success as you plan and prepare for something bigger – Your Future.
